EXIT Festival 2026 und darüber hinaus: Wenn Kultur Widerstand leistet, wie geht es dann weiter?
Im Jahr 2026 wird das EXIT Festival zum ersten Mal in seiner 25-jährigen Geschichte Serbien verlassen – eine wegweisende Entscheidung, die durch zunehmenden politischen Druck, den Entzug öffentlicher Mittel und ein zunehmend feindseliges Umfeld für unabhängige Kulturinstitutionen motiviert ist. EXIT wurde im Jahr 2000 als studentische Protestbewegung für Demokratie und Meinungsfreiheit gegründet und entwickelte sich zu einem der renommiertesten Musikfestivals Europas, das nicht nur für künstlerische Exzellenz, sondern auch für Zivilcourage steht. Angesichts des sich wandelnden politischen Klimas und des schwindenden Raums für Dissens steht das Festival nun vor einer grundlegenden Frage: Kann es seinen Gründungswerten treu bleiben, ohne die Unterstützung – oder Toleranz – seines Heimatlandes? In einem 1:2-Interview reflektieren Gründer Dušan Kovačević und ein Teammitglied über diesen historischen Wendepunkt: Wie kann man im Exil navigieren, eine neue Vision entwickeln und den kulturellen Raum in einem sich wandelnden Europa unter Druck verteidigen?

Er ist und war tätig als Partnership-Manager, Booker, Konzeptionist & Berater für Brands, Konferenzen, Events & Corporate Kunden. Dazu gehörten u.a. Lollapalooza Berlin, Berlin Pride, Superbloom München, Special Olympics, We Are Developers uvm. Er ist engagierter LGBTIQA-Aktivist und aktuell Berater & Director des Festival of Lights und FOL in Concert sowie verantwortlich für das Brand Management der neuen AQUAHŌFE Berlin, wozu u.a. Kreuzwerk, Ritter Butzke und weitere Stätten gehören. Darüber hinaus ist er im Vorstandsteam des Preis & Verein für Popkultur und hat eine eigene Agentur.

Tanja Nježić is Secretary General of EXIT, overseeing public affairs, social activities, and cooperation with key stakeholders for EXIT Festival, Sea Dance, Sea Star, and other global projects. With over 19 years of experience in public affairs, social responsibility, stakeholder relations, and event management, she holds a BA in International Relations and an MA in International Public Law, and is a certified NLP Practitioner.

Dušan Kovačević is the founder and CEO of the EXIT Festival group, which has developed into one of the leading independent event organizations in the world.
Over the past two years, the EXIT team has organized over 50 events in 12 countries, attended by nearly a million people.Major global media outlets regularly report on EXIT as one of the most prestigious festivals in the world. EXIT has brought the biggest music stars to Serbia, including Robbie Williams, The Cure, Madonna, Depeche Mode, The Killers, Calvin Harris, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Prodigy, David Guetta, and many others.
In addition to conventional music events, EXIT has also entered the Metaverse and introduced the first VR festival experience at Expo Dubai 2020.
In 2021, the renowned American magazine Pollstar named Dušan one of the twenty most influential individuals in the European live music domain, recognizing him among leaders who have “led, inspired, and advanced the live music industry”.
Kovačević is also the founder of EXIT Foundation, a leader in Southeastern Europe when it comes to youth development, peace promotion, creative industries, environmental protection, and destination branding.
It has partnered with some of the biggest global organizations such as the EU, UNICEF, UNWTO, USAID, and has established a special partnership with the largest humanitarian organization – United Nations World Food Programme on the Life Stream project.
